Not really sure how to put our new year's eve into words... Traveling stand by is always an adventure and you just never know how your day is going to turn out. Our flight from Phoenix to Santa Barbara was cancelled due to fog. (thank you fog) There was a flight at the gate next door flying to San Luis Obispo, and we barely made it on by the skin of our teeth. Ended up in San Luis at around 9:30pm. Rental car places all closed, one taxi at the airport, one room left at the madonna inn. We have always wanted to stay there, but the timing was just never right until the night of new year's eve! I couldn't have imagined a better way to bring in the new year than this. It was unforgettable. The madonna inn was amazing. The dance party was awesome. the people were characters! Sequins, tuxedos, every color under the sun, free photo booth, balloons, sparkles, live music, cocktails, festive everything. Someone even got married there that night. It was such a dream. Happy New Year!

We had to caravan since we had so many people, so on the way back from santa fe, every couple miles, we were greeted by the passengers in car #1. This was right outside the little town of Cerrillos, just miles from where Javier and i got hitched. What a hoot.

In high school, one of the hubcaps from my 1980 datsun 510 (aka the DUSTEATER') had mysteriously disappeared. My dad took me down to mr. hubcap-this dodgy place in sketchville, albuquerque to dig through hundreds and thousands of hubcaps to find the match to my car. A few hours into the search, we actually found the exact match to the 510. I think we paid $5 for it, maybe. I couldn't believe it. What a lesson in persistence. I was surprised to see that the place was still there, and had to stop for a pic.

Christmas Eve

Was on the plane to Phoenix on Christmas Eve and got turned around mid air, because of a mechanical issue with the plane. Javier and I were flying stand by, so we got bumped from the next flight. We ended up back in Santa Barbara for the night. Plan B worked out in our favor. We got to sip on some tasty wine at the beach, and got on a flight the very next day.

It was great to have my mom and dad in town for Thanksgiving. It was a festive 'international' thanksgiving...our friends Leoni and Sam from England and Alex who hails from Mexico. "RUNNING NEVER TAKES MORE THAN IT GIVES BACK. BELIEVE IN THE RUN".
Tomorrow these feet will hit the pavement for the Santa Barbara Marathon. Last year at this time, I was registered for the half marathon, but didn't end up running because I was sick with horrific bronchitis. Like clockwork, my body broke down and got sick again this week. Only this year I'm running the full, so there is so more at stake. No chance I'm dropping out after the miles and miles of training. Feeling on the up and up today, but still tired and weak. Hoping for a good night's sleep and a good strong race tomorrow!

Took a mini-vacay a few weekends back to Paso Robles. We met Huw and his lady Kristina and spent the weekend doing a whole lot of nothing. We had a great dinner at an amazing restaurant called Artisan and did some wine tasting and lounging all weekend.

So, Javier and I have been to our fair share of weddings over the past years. Last weekend we logged wedding #28 by attending Molly & Randall's wedding. My calculations conclude that we are averaging about 4 weddings a year, most of which we are traveling to in another state or country. Don't get me wrong, we love packing our bags for long weekends to celebrate our friends' nuptials, but this wedding was different, because it was right here in Santa Barbara and was a sort of milestone for us...we are making friends and digging some roots here in SB. Thanks M & R for a great sunday afternoon, one to go down in the books.

Here we are boarding our east bound flight to colorado for Rob and Macayla's wedding. For anyone who has flown into Santa Barbara, you know and adore this charming little airport. It's not much larger than a Walgreens. It boasts the gorgeous Santa Barbara spanish architecture, it's quaint, it's breezy and outdoors. Sadly, this was probably our last flight out of here. Too small to handle the logistics of travel demands these days, Santa Barbara has built a new airport, which is as beautiful as they come, but just not the same. Top of my list for living in Santa Barbara...stepping off the plane onto the runway, and smelling the ocean air. A jet bridge just isn't going to do the trick. Farewell SBA!
